Story #17: The Gift

The Gift

It all started with Nicole and Kevin Magio, she went to her front door one day and
found this poem that read,

“Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
I see you Everyday
And my heart belongs to You”

She stared at it stunned and dumbfounded trying to figure out who this came from. At
first she thought it was a joke or just a friend, so she just threw it on the counter and
blew it off. Once her husband came home he noticed it and was not very happy.

“Nicole, what is this? Where did it come from?” commented Kevin.

Running down the stairs Nicole was jokingly saying,
“It was just a little something that I found at the front door, I don’t know. Why?”.
All he did was snicker and walk away thinking it was funny.

The next day Nicole went to go leave for work and there was a vase full of a dozen
red roses and a poem that read,

“Roses are Red
The trees are Green
I love you
And you’re special to Me”

“What is this?” she questioned to herself.

This time her husband wasn’t home and so she called while he was at work. He came
rushing home and to his surprise Nicole was placing them on her table.

“What are you doing which those?” he asked her.

“Well, since I have them I may as well put them to use.” she told him. “What should we
do, I thought about calling the police but I thought that maybe it would be to extreme.”
Well at this point in time we probably should call them, but I do agree you probably
should wait. Now that I think of it though it is kind of funny you have a stalker. Time to
just embrace it.” he mentioned, “We should just go to bed now.”.

Right when Nicole woke up she went to go check to see if there was anything outside
there door. Her anticipation was out of this world. Once she got to the door, she went
to a dead stop, she thought what if there is nothing will it be all over or is this person
waiting for another time. Her gut told her not to open the door but her head told her to
open it. So she listened to her head and opened the door.

“What?” she remarked.

She should have listened to her gut because now she was kind of disappointed. From
that point on she went on the rest of her normal morning schedule of making the coffee,
breakfast, waking up Kevin, and getting him ready for work at the police station.

When she got home she had a feeling that something was wrong. She had her phone
on one ear while she was trying to stick the key in the lock and open the door. Once
she opened the door she noticed a guy in her living room just standing there.

“Hello Nicole.”

She dropped her phone and keys.

“Who are you and how did you get into my house?” Nicole squealed.

When she said this, she noticed the broken window on the other side of the room,
were he probably came in.

“Hi, my name is Kallen Jepson and I have been watching you for a while, I think you
are just an astonishing woman.” he exclaimed.

“Thank you but, you never answered my question. WHY ARE YOU HERE?” she said
in a very stern voice.

“I came here to see if you wanted to come with me?” he asked.

While he was talking he was moving closer and closer and when he reached for her
hand she pulled away. Right when she pulled her hand away her husband came
busting through the door and on instinct, Kevin shot him.

“Well, at least we don’t have to deal with the strange gifts anymore and that weird old
creep, thank goodness you dropped your phone that was the only reason I knew what
was going on.” Kevin remarked.
